Power Engineer


Job Summary


AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Power Engineer for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office.


The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:


  • Responsible for the electrical engineering design for new construction and renovation projects

  • Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures

  • Exercises judgment limited to developing details of work in making system selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Identifies unusual or difficult problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied on non-routine work

  • Receives minimal supervision on technical aspect of assignments

  • Mentors junior engineers and assist in their professional development

  • Works in a team based environment, and take the lead as needed

  • Evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications

  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria

  • Resolves issues or problems concerning conflicting design requirements, specifications and/or difficult coordination requirements

  • Periodically conducts QC checks of peers work and perform technical presentations

  • Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work as a part of a major project or small-moderate scope project

  • Reviews, plans and, prepares technical specifications according to the contract documents

  • Coordinates and prepares deliverable (calculations, specifications and drawings) for submittal to clients

  • Represents project(s) to other disciplines and AECOM management

  • Interacts regularly with clients to expand work assignments or market new work

  • Assists with proposals and scopes of work to provide services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs

  • Designs and specifies medium and low-voltage power distribution systems including substations, transformers, switchgears/switchboards, panelboards, relay protection, MCCs, VFDs, UPS, and generators

  • Provides construction documents including plans and specifications for power and energy projects including combined heat and power, distributed generation, micro-grids/smart grids, battery and thermal energy storage, energy efficiency, and renewable energy

  • Designs and specifies cabling and conduit/cable tray cable distribution systems, grounding, and lightning protection systems

  • Designs one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and panel layouts in AC and DC

  • Provides quality checks

  • Prepares bill of material, construction cost estimates, and provide engineering support during construction including testing and commissioning


Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or 4 year Electrical Technology degree (EET) from an ABET accredited university

  • 5+ years of engineering experience

  • EIT or PE licensed

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, REVIT, and AutoCAD

  • Proficient with power analysis tools such as SKM and ETAP to provide short circuit, arc flash, load flow, and protective device coordination studies

  • Excellent client/customer service skills

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines and budget

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to travel as required to meet project requirements

  • Familiar with engineering and building codes: NEC, NFPA 110, NFPA 99, IBC, etc.

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license


Preferred Qualifications


  • Transmission and distribution experience is a plus

  • High voltage experience a plus
