Power Engineer 4th
The Power Engineer 4th Class is responsible for assisting the Shift Engineer, Power Plant Coordinator and Manager with monitoring, operating, repairs, and maintenance regarding power plant operations in accordance with AHS and the Alberta Boiler Safety Association. Key Responsibilities: Responsible to the Shift Engineer for maintaining and operating boilers, pumps, compressors, generators, air handling units, and all other related equipment. Lubricates, repairs and assists in preventative maintenance on all machinery. Maintains proper housekeeping in all related steam plant areas. Responds to trouble calls and carries out necessary corrective action during weekends and off shifts. Assists in the maintenance of all mechanical and life safety supportive systems installed in the hospital complex, including automatic controls. Responds to emergency and high priority situations, i.e. water release, fire, heating, and cooling issues that may cause delay or cancellation of patient treatment. Starts, operates and shuts down boilers, chillers, emergency generators, pumps, hot water tanks, air handling units, compressors, heat exchangers, etc. Completes preventative/demand maintenance work orders as assigned. Equipment rounds and visual checks, log sheet readings, water tests, makes adjustments as necessary to flows, temperatures, chemicals, etc. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and come to a root cause of the failure or issue in a timely manner. Completes Field Level Risk Assessments and Permitting required for the associated task or work. Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager(s), Lead Hand, Power Plant Coordinator and Shift Engineer(s). Understands and implements departmental procedures. Will be able to identify the need for, create, review, and implement procedures related to the Power Plant equipment. Be able to coach and mentor others.
As a Power Engineer 4th Class, you will be responsible for assisting with monitoring, repairs and maintenance of plant operations in accordance with AHS and Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) standards and practices. You will schedule and check building/power plant equipment systems on a pre-established schedule. In addition, you will operate and maintain the plant in a safe and efficient manner according to ABSA regulations.

Completion of 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate.Additional Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma (Grade 12). 5 years’ experience in a similar role and in a health care facility setting. Must demonstrate a willingness and ability to progress to a minimum of a 3rd Class Power Engineer certification. Must be mechanically inclined with the desire to take responsibility for a power plant. Experienced in high pressure Power Plants and institutional maintenance. Communication skills are essential. Must be able to speak, write, and follow written instructions in English. Experience in the use of computers, peripherals, and various standard office software applications. Experience in the operation of various control systems including: Building Management Systems (BMS), boiler controls and safety systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC), human machine interfaces (HMI), and fire alarm systems.
