Business & Cost Analyst- AEPCO

 

Description: Provide detailed cost analysis for operational and maintenance functions of Arizona Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. (AEPCO). Emphasis shall be placed on the variance analysis of annual budgets, cost reports and equipment work orders including material, labor and other costs and expenses, and cost analysis associated with prospective decisions or plans. In addition to operational and maintenance analysis, this position is also be responsible for the development of operational and maintenance cost profiles for the annual operating budget and to coordinate those results with the Finance Division.

The Business and Cost Analyst will work with the applicable AEPCO managers responsible for coordinating the development of Construction Work Plans and annual capital project budgets. The position is responsible to coordinate the Construction Work Plans and annual budgets with the applicable Finance Division departments in support of additional approvals, funding applications or further implementation. 

Duties: • Analysis of detailed cost and accounting records designed to develop managerial reporting associated with the operational and maintenance cost profiles associated with the plant systems and Power Trading Functions.
• Development, analyze, and reconcile operational and maintenance systems for per unit cost reporting 
• Reconciliation of accounting cost records for accuracy and explanatory detail of charges.
• Become knowledgeable and aware of the accounting practices employed by AEPCO to comply with GAAP, RUS and other regulatory accounting requirements.
• Assist in the analysis and coordination of the cooperative’s annual budgeting process including the development, analysis and interpretation of operational and maintenance expense variances. 
• Coordinate between the various departments in the Finance Division and AEPCO departmental managers.
• Assist in development of financial reports.
• Assist in preparing eConstruction Work Plans and annual capital budget, including oversight of the capital project initiation and closeout process.
• Review the sufficiency of the Cooperative’s cost center structure in an attempt to improve expense tracking and verification all designed to improve the Cooperative’s cost control processes.
• Understand and periodically evaluate the Cooperative’s inventory profiles, including material, coal and natural gas storage, in an attempt to assist AEPCO managers in cost control objectives. 
• Understand, periodically review and verify inter-Cooperative payments for correctness and compliance with current lease agreements.
• Develop a detailed understanding of the operational and maintenance cost functions together with the cooperative’s multi cost allocation systems in an effort to provide financial and cost analysis information to AEPCO managers designed to assist in cost control.
• Participate in a variety of special projects, teams and tasks as needed.

Qualifications: • Four-year degree in accounting or business administration or substantial equivalent experience.
• Understanding of GAAP, regulatory and plant accounting principles and applications.
• Extensive knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications.
• Experience with an ERP accounting software, SAP preferred.
• Ability to work independently as a self starter and to prioritize and manage multiple tasks With minimal supervision.
• Ability to work well with department members, interface with other departments and build team relationships.
