Associate System Administrator/ Desktop Support

 

Description: The Associate System Administrator/Desktop Support position provides desktop and basic server administration support. This is a combination role that must work closely with the Help Desk Operator. The Associate System Administrator/Desktop Support position provides hardware and software support to resolve customer problems from the inception of the work request to closeout. Customer satisfaction is key to resolving problems. The Associate System Administrator/Desktop Support will work closely with the user population to provide technical assistance; configure, install and troubleshoot personal computer hardware, software, and peripheral devices in a network environment; maintain high levels of customer support and service; and continue to be proficient in personal computer, and network technologies through on-the-job training and professional development. In addition, the Associate System Administrator/Desktop Support will work under the direction of the system administrators performing assigned tasks on server-based projects, server maintenance, and infrastructure systems. Duties: • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and move PC hardware, software, and peripheral equipment. 
• Provide customer service and technical support, including user training in hardware and software. 
• Improve skills in hardware, software, and operating system technology (desktop and server) through training, certification, and seminars. 
• Perform backups and restores as needed of critical company data from the network. 
• Promote a team environment as a team member of the IT Desktop Support group and the IT System Administration group. 
• Playing key role in meeting user expectations for basic server issues, as itemized above.
• Supporting Service Desk Technician to identify and correctly assign work requests.
• Prioritizing work requests to minimize downtime for projects and users.
• Maintaining logs of server activities.
• Documenting data center and server configurations.
• Install, configure, troubleshoot, and move server and server software, hardware and peripheral equipment. 
• Researching and removing computer viruses.
• Contact vendors for technical support, parts pricing, ordering, and research.

Qualifications: • Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems, or related field, and 2- 4 years working experience in IT desktop support.
• CompTIA A+ certification required.
• A Microsoft certification in desktop support is required within six months of employment. The certification can include MCDST (Windows XP), MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7, MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7, or other equivalent certifications.
• Microsoft MCSA, MCSE, or MCITP: SA certification is required within one year of employment. 
• Dell CSE certifications in portables, desktops, workstations, and servers required within six months of employment date. Associate certifications required; Master level certifications supported. 
• HDI CSS certification required within six months of employment date.
• Basic understanding of and competence with PC hardware/software and x86-server hardware/software. 
• Understanding of and ability to support the standard installed software and hardware application such Windows, Microsoft Office, HP devices, etc. Certifications in these areas of competence is supported and encouraged.
• Basic working knowledge of Windows environments, including servers, workstations, networking and other hardware platforms.
• Basic knowledge of WAN/LAN configurations, design and implementation.
• Ability to develop skills in Microsoft SharePoint Administration and SAP Basis with the goal being to become the backup to these mission critical areas. Certifications in these areas is supported and encouraged.
• Strong proactive customer service and follow-up skills with the ability to maintain a professional relationship with customers and staff, including times exposed to various and frequent customer demands and multiple timelines.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision making decisions within an appropriate span of control.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral, with all employees.
• Ability to work on projects in a team environment. 
• Demonstrated oral and written communications skills including, but not limited to interpersonal, organizational, communications, documentation, and troubleshooting. 
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience can be substituted for requirements listed above.
