Line Superintendent

 Job Description

Position Summary:  To plan, schedule, supervise, coordinate, and monitor activities of the Construction Department which is engaged in servicing both new and current Members of the Cooperative, along with the construction and maintenance of electric power lines and other Cooperative facilities located within the service areas.

Reporting Relationships:

Primarily reports to: Operations Manager

Supervises: Line and Service Crews

External Relationships: Members/Owners, general public, consulting engineer, wholesale power provider, contractors, outside vendors, attorneys and other utilities.

Job Requirements

 

Job Knowledge, Training and Experience:  Bachelors' degree in a discipline relevant to the utility industry is preferred. However, a combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered. Relevant experience would consist of five (5) or more year's progressive experience with a utility. Must have the knowledge and understanding of the electric cooperative concept and its history, safety rules and regulations, Individual will oversee all operations of the Construction Department, working closely with Management on issues, such as; planning, budgeting, member/owner issues, payments and collections, service requests, work order scheduling, safety, employee production, outages, inventory control, labor, interviewing, staffing, employee supervision, performance appraisals, emergency situations, and interdepartmental coordination.    Must have a valid Texas driver's license and related insurance.  Must be able to effectively communicate with employees, members/owners and others orally and in writing, in English, with tact and diplomacy.  Must be a self-starter, be able to perform duties with little or no supervision and have the ability to follow instructions well.  Individual must work within the specific limits of approved board policies, tariffs, work plans, budgets, and operating guidelines and procedures while conforming to all applicable federal, state and local laws.  Must be able to read and understand Cooperative system maps, tariffs, work orders, staking sheets, NESC and other specifications.  Perform with proficiency, utilizing all required materials, tools, equipment, computer system and programs. Keep informed of up-to-date methods in order to correctly perform first aid procedures, including artificial resuscitation. Must be able to carry out a variety of activities that require a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Must be able to sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time and work in all types of weather conditions.
