Plant Operator 1 - 11

 Job Description

Responsibility may vary depending on level of position.  Function may include: Unloading the train, operating machinery and systems associated with the coal hoisting systems, auxiliary plant equipment, and the scrubber and bag house, operating machinery and equipment associated with the boiler/turbine operation, the water treatment plant, the cardboard recycling plant steam and supply equipment.

Job Requirements

 

  • Must have a satisfactory work record.

 

  • Must have and maintain a current, valid driver’s license.

 

  • Must pass TABE Math and Reading test and SRA Mechanical Concepts test.

 

  • Must have work experience wherein basic familiarization of fans, pumps, motors, and other moving and rotating equipment have been demonstrated.

 

  • Must work a rotating shift including weekends and holidays.

 

  • Must meet the requirements of the Step-Grade criteria for the specific job function at the various Plant Operator levels attached depending upon the Step-Grade level of the incumbent.

 

  • Must successfully complete required OSHA training.

 

  • Must be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform all of the essential functions of the position.

 

  • Must be able to perform heavy work requiring lifting or exerting pressure in excess of 50 Pounds frequently.  Must be able to work in confined spaces and in high places.  A substantial amount of standing, walking, climbing reaching overhead, bending and squatting is required.  Must be able to hear alarms and timers and differentiate between the different normal and abnormal noises, sounds and alarms found in the operation of a power plant.  Vision requirements include the ability to differentiate between colors, see instrument read-outs, charts, gauges, and alarm windows. Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions, high heat, high voltage, dusts, chemicals, loud noises, rotating machinery and other conditions found in a coal fired power plant.

 

  • Must be willing and able to work different work schedules, rotating shifts, and subject to “on call” status (availability) at management discretion.

 

  • Must reside within a one hour reporting time to the Escalante Generating Station.
