Job Description
Under direct guidance provides basic support in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical substation equipment such as transformers, gas and oil circuit breakers, battery banks, and motor operated switches.
A. Assists in the installation and field repair of all assigned substation equipment.
B. Identifies and becomes familiar with the basic test equipment necessary for the proper operation of the substation equipment.
C. Reads, understands, and interprets (with direct guidance) elementary engineering drawings, manufacturers’ documents, and other documentation needed for the installation and testing of existing and/or new substation equipment.
D. Learns proper techniques in the troubleshooting of improper operation of substation equipment and associated schemes and makes repairs as required.
E. Assists with documentation of maintenance records of tested and inspected equipment and substation locations required for compliance.
F. Assists in alerting appropriate personnel of test and inspection deficiencies.
G. Assists in preparing work requests from inspection results
H. Assists in repair, installation, testing and inspection of other substation equipment as needed.
I. Develops a working knowledge of non-assigned equipment and systems in power substations.
J. Required to read, interpret, comprehend, and initiate instructions of applicable material safety data sheets.
K. Follows safety rules and procedures and assumes responsibility to encourage other co-workers to follow these rules.
L. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
Job RequirementsAssociate’s degree in Electronics or Electrical Technology or equivalent is required.
· Basic knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems.
· Ability to read, understand, and interpret (with direct guidance) technical material for substation equipment and other assigned equipment.
· Ability to select and use basic test equipment, including, but not limited to, power factor test set, turns ratio tester, megger, multimeters, current transformer tester, battery load tester, and PCs needed to maintain assigned equipment.
· Ability to read, understand, and interpret (with direct guidance) engineering drawings, manufacturers’ instruction books, and other documentation needed in the installation, maintenance, and testing of existing and new assigned equipment.
· Must have or be able to obtain a CDL Class A driver’s license with tanker endorsement.
· Must be able to satisfactorily complete entry level Technician examination.
· Must be able to satisfactorily complete security sensitive background screening.
· Must be able to regularly move and lift up to 100 pounds.
· Must be available for callout and able to work in inclement weather.
· Must be comfortable working at heights above ground and in confined spaces.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include normal visual range with or without correction and color vision.
