Staking Technician

 Job Description

•(a)      Receives service order requests from the Customer Service Representatives, makes a field inspection of the site, designs the requested service to the best benefit of the consumer and the Cooperative, and prepares staking sheets and material sheets for work orders in accordance with established Cooperative guidelines.
•(b)      Makes a cost estimate of the service to the consumer using the latest Cooperative construction cost estimates.  Calculates the line extension cost to the consumer, if any, and advises the consumer of the cost for the approval to proceed with the installation.
•(c)      Enters the staking sheet data into the computer system to develop a material list for the staking sheet including conductor and transformer requirements.
•(d)      Estimate cost of providing facilities and service to new and existing members, including contribution in aid to construction.
•(e)      In the planning stage of work order, communicates with the member and adjoining property owners that may be involved to ensure that they understand fully how their property is going to be involved in the construction or maintenance of power lines and obtains necessary permits and easements for the line. 
•(f)       Prepares the necessary permits to be submitted to the Florida Department of Transportation and/or County Road Departments when it is necessary for the Cooperative to construct lines crossing these roadways. 
•(g)      Familiarizes self with the latest editions of the National Electric Safety Code, the National Electric Code and RUS specifications. 
•(h)      Provides contract rate, class, capacity, construction cost and other variable information required to offer specific contract terms and/or payment provision options to potential and existing consumers according to Cooperative policies and guidelines.
•(i)       Stake electric lines as part of the work plan, including new construction, system improvements, overhead and underground construction.
•(j)       Assist in development of work plan by collecting information and making recommendations.
•(k)      Maintain tools, equipment and vehicle.
•(l)       Observes all safety rules.
•(m)    Coordinates specifications for new three-phase accounts with the assistance of the Lead Staking Technician or the department Manager as required.
•(n)      Answer inquires from consumers and other employees concerning work in progress for the department.
•(o)      Communicates with members and other persons concerning easements.
•(p)      Communicates with developers to provide for mutually agreed upon locations for the installation of Cooperative facilities in areas to be developed and to provide for the proper utility easements within the development. 
•(q)      Attend training courses and/or completes other studies to maintain and improve technical experience.
•(r)       Maintain daily e-time.
•(s)      Participates in safety meetings, training programs and annual meeting as required.
•(t)       This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and can be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management deems necessary. Job Requirements •(a)      High school diploma or equivalent required.
•(b)      Associates Degree required.
•(c)      Entry level with on-the-job experience in combination with 12 Step Training Program to develop skills in six years or equivalent.
•(d)      Knowledge of personal computer applications including database, spreadsheet, word processing and electric system modeling required.
•(e)      Working knowledge of system protection coordination principles and computer-aided drafting preferred.
•(f)       Prefer a general knowledge of electric utility engineering practices, operations and construction.
•(g)      Prefer a general knowledge of standard utility specifications and the National Electric Safety Code.
•(h)      Must be organized, detail-orientated, able to concentrate, and skilled in communicating with people.
•(i)       Must be able to express him/herself well orally and in technical writing projects. 
•(j)       Must be skilled in the use of a personal computer. 
•(k)      Must be able to organize and plan work projects.
•(l)       Must be familiar with algebraic and trigonometric functions and be able to apply their use to utility design and engineering problems.
