Field Applications Engineer

Boston-Power, Inc. (BPI) is currently seeking a highly skilled Field Applications Engineer to support the needs of our rapidly growing international business operations. This is a high visibility, customer facing position that will require you to successfully interact and support battery related design solutions with major portable power, large format and energy storage OEM/ODM’s. While based in our corporate office in Westborough, MA you will have responsibility for field application support solutions across all Boston Power’s portable power and large format customer locations- USA and abroad. You will work with talented and highly successful people across a wide variety of functions. This is an excellent opportunity to utilize your strong communication, project management and technical problem solving skills, while driving field support solutions within a dynamic, fast paced, pre-IPO company.

Responsibilities:

· Work with major portable power, large format and energy storage battery pack vendors and BPI manufacturing and quality teams to smoothly transition packs from R&D to mass production, this includes understanding all of the manufacturing processes of the pack vendors and highlighting/preventing any possible improper handling of the cells during normal manufacturing procedures;

· Work closely with major portable power, large format and energy storage battery pack vendors and BPI manufacturing and quality teams to resolve any issues that arise once the packs have been released to mass production;

· Counsel with OEM/ODM customers to provide and/or develop the most efficient technical solution based on customer priorities and requirements;

· Develop technical solutions for customers including schematics, product selection and if required, customized hardware solutions;

· Investigate field issues and customer complaints, both technical and quality related, to find root causes and develop corrective action with BPI engineering, manufacturing, and/or quality teams;

· Provide product presentations to engineering community and assigned customers in the territory;

· Participate in customer design reviews;

· Act as a liaison to product lines and BPI manufacturing organization to ensure successful design and implementation programs.

Requirements:

· Bachelors degree in an analytical science or engineering is required, Masters degree preferred;

· Five plus (5+) years of experience in field application and/or customer support role;

· Strong background in battery/power management is a plus;

· Strong working knowledge of lithium-ion chemistry is a plus;

· Good problem solving skills and customer-focused attitude;

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

· Willingness to travel as needed.
