Electrical Power Engineer I - Distribution and Collection

Position Purpose
Position is responsible for the preparation of computer-based models and performing power system studies on utility distribution, wind farm collection systems, and industrial/commercial electrical power systems, including: stability (transient & dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor, arc flash, and other related studies.

Essential Functions

    • Assist with design, plans, specifications, and reports
    • Use design software to prepare design documents
    • Read and interpret construction plans
    • Ensure compliance with KLJ quality standards
    • Utilize effective written and oral communication


    • Use industry software to prepare electrical system models and perform system studies
    • Read and interpret electrical power equipment documentation
    • Show increased design competency
    • Become familiar with the details of putting together a set of plans
    • May provide construction observation


    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited program with emphasis in power systems
    • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination or the ability to complete within 1 year of employment
    • Experience level is 0 or more years
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
    • Experience with ETAP, SKM, Synergy, CYME or similar steady-state analysis software is preferred. Experience with EMTP-RV or other transient analysis software is preferred


    • Completion of the fundamentals of engineering exam is preferred

Hours and Travel

       This position requires the individual work 40 or more hours per week. The percentage of time spent in the field and office will vary.
