The City of Naperville’s Electric Utility seeks a talented and self-motivated Senior Electrical Engineering Technician to provide the day-to-day support of our Meter Data Management System (MDMS), which houses all utility electrical meter data. You will manage projects related to the upgrade of the MDMS and perform quality control activities. You will support our utility billing process (including meter exchanges and meter exchange equipment), and provide back-up support for the Automated Metering Infrastructure head end system.
Specifically, the Sr. EE Tech (Automated Metering) maintains and provides primary technical support for the Meter Data Management System (MDMS) and the meter exchange process; communicates and coordinates with vendors to identify, troubleshoot, & resolve system issues; performs monitoring & performance tuning of the MDMS and designs, recommends, & implements upgrades as needed; reports project status to management and maintains project & personal activity records; develops test plans and verifies safe & efficient deployment/upgrade plans utilized for the MDMS and related systems; and verifies and troubleshoots failed meter exchanges.
Reporting to a Senior Electrical Engineer in the Utility Technology Systems section, the Sr. EE Tech (Automated Metering) also maintains customer billing and resolves issues with the finance department and/or other department personal. He/she serves as primary backup for the Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI); assists in the preparation of annual budget and associated cost estimates; develops system printouts, data logs, and reports as required or requested by management and/or Finance; permanently fixes issues by requesting modification and assisting in the correction of any process or procedure which may require such change (such requests are made to the immediate supervisor with or without his solicitation); attends meetings pertaining to design, integration, planning, status, installation, and management of the Smart Grid Systems; and assists department personnel.
At a minimum, candidates must possessan Associate's degree in a related field, plus five or more years directly related professional experience.
Alternately, the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (or a related field) combined with one to three years of directly related work experience will also qualify you. A valid State of Illinois Class D Driver's License and a good driving record are required regardless.
Candidates receiving extra consideration will possess:
Knowledge of electrical engineering principles… terminology/symbols/techniques for software and database design & maintenance… electrical equipment/components and construction of an Electrical Utility System… electric metering components and their function… and of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
Skills incommunicating effectively with software developers, Operation Supervisors, Meter Technicians other City employees, homeowners, and the general public… the use of a personal computer, including Microsoft Office, web-based applications and utility-specific applications… note-taking (including that of software design concepts), and…in the proper grammar/etiquette of written correspondence and verbal communication.
Abilities to perform electrical engineering calculations… interpret electronic and paper maps… perform engineering tasks with little or no supervision…
