Description NAES Corporation has an immediate opening for an experienced Planner/Scheduler at the Quail Run Energy Center. Located in Odessa, Texas, the plant is a two 2 x 1 combined cycle natural gas facility strategically located near the Waha natural gas supply basin.The facility consists of General Electric 7EA combustion turbine generators, natural gas-fired heat recovery steam generators, and condensing steam turbine-generators.

The Planner/Scheduler is responsible for planning the maintenance and repair of plant facilities and equipment. This position schedules the work to be accomplished daily, weekly and during planned outages, and determines the required parts, equipment and human resources to complete this work.


Plans the preventive/corrective activities for maintenance personnel in performing maintenance and repair activities.

Plans and schedules major plant outages and provides priority lists for shadow maintenance.

Establishes contingency work priorities for forced outage situations.

Recommends and facilitates the procurement of parts and equipment necessary to support all identified maintenance.

Retrieves the required parts from inventory; identifies the necessary tools for repair; researches vendor technical instructions for all plant repair work.

Determines the required plant conditions and appropriate work isolation for planned maintenance, including the preparation of lockout/tagouts. 

Coordinates the plant's predictive maintenance program.

Administers a maintenance plan that ensures electrical and mechanical equipment is serviced and maintained in accordance with vendor recommendations and procedures.

Implements the plant's preventive maintenance program, including failure records, and provides trend information to the Maintenance Manager.

Supports and coordinates root cause analysis.


Responsible for the oversight, administration and coordination of all plant Operator and Owner NERC accountabilities. Must be familiar with all NERC standards and requirements in order to:

• Understand and interpret regulatory requirements (know where to obtain information and interpret requirements to be applied at the plant level);
• Monitor NERC websites for new regulations and requirements that are applicable to the plant;
• Ability to analyze large amounts of technical data and structure such information for the purposes of clearly documenting and demonstrating compliance with all applicable NERC Reliability Compliance standards.
• Complete Reliability Standard Audit Worksheets (RSAWs) for the plant
• Provide responses that are accurate, technically competent, and given with consideration to represent the stakeholders in a proper manner during compliance visits
• Ensure that plant NERC Reliability procedures and policies are kept up to date with requirements
• Provide training to plant personnel on updated or new NERC procedures and requirements

Performs other assigned duties.

Effectiveness in carrying out this responsibility is part of the evaluation of each supervisor’s performance. This includes, but is not limited to, the following functions:

Conduct/Support Regular Safety Meetings (at least monthly) 
Address Safety at all Group Meetings 

Conduct Inspections and Observations: establish within the department a regular inspection of the work area and a safety observation process of work being performed. 

Establish and lead these activities following any rules, requirements or guidance established in your business unit, group or division. 
Involve all NAES teammates in the activities. 
Analyze result, write work orders, train and educate to eliminate hazards, at-risk behavior and meet company regulatory requirements. 
Conduct Regular Observation Tours: Conduct no less than two safety observation tours of high risk activities e.g. confined space to verify that employees are performing the work in accordance with safe practices, company procedures and OSHA regulations. 
Regular and Frequent Contacts: conduct one-on-one contact sessions with workers to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations and coach safe behaviors, e.g., whether the employee is wearing all required personal protective equipment. 

Respond to Incidents: respond to all safety-related incidents including, but not limited to injuries, incidents and near misses; write a report that explains what happened, identify the cause and recommend corrective action following any established business unit or division practice. Follow up as necessary to ensure that corrective action is taken. 


Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and high voltage protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.


Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment.

Two years experience as a power plant mechanic or equivalent is required.

Gas turbine/combined cycle plant experience desired. 

Planning and scheduling experience highly desirable.

Microsoft Project and Excel experience needed.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as organizational skills.
